Throughout Gusii region, Akama was among the professionals tasked to deliver for the president in both August and October.

But the ministry of education has reportedly denied Akama a chance to continue working in the institution which first appointed him as VC in 2013 upon getting charter from the state.

Sources privy to the ongoing lobbying say that Akama has been using Jubilee stalwarts from Kisii region to have his contract renewed but nothing so far has been reached.

Those said to be in his support include MPs Richard Tong'i, Jimmy Angwenyi and Kitutu Chache North's Richard Onyonka.

In 2016, the then Education Minister Fred Matiang'i ordered closure of at least ten campuses affiliated to Kisii University across the country over poor services.

Back at home, a section of political elites have been accusing Akama of poor service delivery which includes delayed payment of lecturers.
