President Uhuru Kenyatta’s swearing-in date has been confirmed.
Uhuru, who was declared president-elect after the October 26 repeat presidential election, will be sworn in on Tuesday, November 28, 2017.
In a gazette notice, Head of Public Service and the chairman of Assumption of Office of the President Committee Joseph Kinyua said, "In exercise of the powers conferred by section 12(2) of the Assumption of the office of the president Act, 2012, the Assumption of the Office of the President Committee notifies the public that the swearing-in ceremony of the president-elect shall take place on Tuesday, the 28th November 2017 at the Moi international sports centre, Kasarani in Nairobi City, from 10 o'clock in the forenoon."
This comes after the Supreme Court on November 20 dismissed petitions that challenged Uhuru's win.
The Supreme Court has in a unanimous decision, dismissed the petitions challenging the validity of the October 26 presidential election.
The bench found that the two separate petitions, that of Harun Mwau and that of Khelef Khalifa and Njonjo Mwau, failed to show that the poll was so fundamentally flawed to warrant a nullification.
“The court has unanimously determined that the petitions are not merited and the final orders are that the petition by John Harun Mwau versus the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and two others as consolidated is hereby dismissed.”
“The petition by Njonjo Mue and another versus the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and three others as consolidated is also hereby dismissed. As a consequence, the presidential election of October 26 is hereby upheld as is the election of Uhuru Kenyatta,” Chief Justice David Maraga said.
