Dozens of people believed to be behind protests in Keroka town on Thursday in which President Uhuru Kenyatta’s effigy was buried have been arrested and charged with treason.

They are held in Keroka police station waiting to be presented in High Court on Monday following an advice by local principal magistrate.

Nyamira County Police Commander Titus Karuri confirmed the arrest but refused to offer explanation to the same.

Understandably, the protesters moved to streets in solidarity with Chief Justice David Maraga, who is under periodical attacks from the president and a number of Jubilee MPs.

Maraga, 66, and three other Supreme Court judges nullified election of President Uhuru Kenyatta on grounds that IEBC did not hold elections in line with the constitution.

Civil groups and opposition leaders from Nyamira have issued a joint presser where they directly link Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i with the woes facing the unspecified number of people.
