President Uhuru Kenyatta will be forced to make a tough decision on who to back for president come 2022.

As he enters his second and final term, Uhuru will have to decide on whom to support between his deputy William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

Uhuru signed a pre-election agreement with Ruto back in 2013 that he (Uhuru) will support him (Ruto) in 2022.

The agreement was signed during the formation of Jubilee Party, which saw the dissolution of at least 12 political parties, including Ruto’s URP.

Uhuru, on the other hand, owes former President Daniel Moi a favour.

Moi brought Uhuru to the political limelight in the 2002 general election and supported him for president. Uhuru lost in the election.

Moi has been instrumental in Uhuru’s political career, with the incumbent seeking advice from the former Kanu leader regularly.

Last week, Uhuru visited Moi at his Kabarak home. Gideon was also present during the meeting, whose details have not been revealed.

Gideon has rivaled Ruto in the battle of the Rift Valley and has insisted that his name will be on the ballot come 2022.

When asked whom he expects President Kenyatta to support between Ruto and Senator Moi, Kanu secretary-general said, “Time will tell. It is too early to speculate on this issue, but as you well know, the president and the senator go way back together. They are childhood friends.”

Salat spoke in an interview with The Nation.

Will the president honour the agreement he signed with Ruto or will he choose to reward his long-term mentor, Moi, by supporting his son Gideon for the presidency?
