Despite visiting the region several times, President Uhuru Kenyatta may not be popular in the Coastal region and may get difficulties in proving a point to locals.
In the just recently concluded elections, Uhuru yet again scored badly despite investing a lot in all coastal counties.
And during swearing in of Governor Hassan Joho, locals openly expressed their love for opposition leader Raila Odinga.
For many hours throughout the day, Mombasa residents recognized Odinga as president in their pro-opposition chants during the inauguration ceremony.
Joho became the first popular leader to retain his seat despite criticism by the national government under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Early this year, Joho had his security team withdrawn after having a confrontation with President Uhuru Kenyatta whom he openly accused of secluding coastal region.
Although it is yet to be known whether or not Uhuru will be sworn in as president, he will still have to meet tough Supreme Court judges who are handling a petition filed by Odinga.
