President Uhuru Kenyatta garnered close to 18,000 fewer votes in Kitui County during the rerun compared to the August General election.
According to the Star, The head of state garnered 46,300 from the 64,726 that he garnered in August despite Former Kitui Senator David Musila having mounted campaigns across the entire Ukambani region in a bid to lock out opposition from the region.
Musila had pledged to take his 117,000 votes to Uhuru following the nullification of his win by the Supreme Court.
Musila, who unsuccessfully contested for the area’s governorship, defected from Wiper after he lost during nominations.
Jubilee also garnered a good number of votes from the constituency including Kitui South (10,346 votes) and Kitui Central (8,221 votes), Kitui East (6,210 votes) and Kitui Rural (4,679 votes).
President Uhuru Kenyatta has since been declared the president-elect. The leader of the opposition Raila Amolo Odinga dropped from the race citing the failure of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to heed to his demands.
The leaders of the opposition wanted the dismissal of IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba who has since gone on leave. Raila opted to transform the alliance into a resistance movement.
