President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Kenya's members to the East Africa Legislative Assembly to ensure they champion the country’s interests.

Speaking on Monday when he met the members, the president said they have been given the responsibility to promote integration in the region.

Kenyatta, who jetted back into the country on Sunday further told the leaders to forge a united front that will guarantee success and promote Kenya's interests at the regional house based in Tanzania.

He will be holding quarterly meetings with the MPs to ensure they deliver on their mandate at the regional assembly for the benefit of Kenyans as well East Africa residents in general.

The MPs, who are drawn from the Jubilee and the opposition Nasa include Simon Mbugua, Kennedy Kalonzo,  Fatuma Ibrahim, Wanjiku Muhia, Noor Aiden, Florence Jamatia, Mpuru Apuri and Abdikadir Omar.

Kenyatta further moved to tell the MPs to ensure that local political differences do not get their way into the assembly and that it should not interfere with their work.

There was a delay in constituting the assembly after Kenya delayed in submitting the names of members, with Jubilee and NASA unable to agree on the names.
