The 2017 presidential petition saw names of renown lawyers who represented the petitioners and the respondents during the court proceedings being mentioned on different social media platforms.The petitioners who were Nasa principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka were represented by a team of lawyers led by senior counsel James Orengo. The 1st and 2nd respondent's (IEBC and its chair Wafula Chebukati) team was led by senior counsel Paul Muite while the 3rd respondent's (President Uhuru Kenyatta) team of lawyers was led by senior counsel Fred Ngatia.However, one of Uhuru's lawyer who is not among the senior counsels in the country managed to steal the show at the Supreme Court.Ng'ania Mellisa, who is said to be the youngest female lawyer in the 2017 presidential petition, was working alongside counsels Fred Ngatia, Ahmednassir Abdullahi and lawyer Tom Macharia to defend the president.She was at one point during the court proceedings tasked to explain graphic presentations that showed his client got majority of votes in most of the counties.Speaking to the Standard during an interview, Mellisa said it was a good experience for her representing Uhuru.‘It was a great experience and I loved the team work and resilience’ said Ng’enia.Mellissa works for Wairegi Gatetua and Associates where she was admitted to the bar in 2011. She first worked with Havi and Co. Advocates for six years.Despite the hectic schedule she undergoes in her line of duty, she said she loves her job.She advises the youth, ‘'Do not shy away from networking for you never know where your luck lies.''Ng'ania is the last born in a family of six, and a graduate of Makerere University.
