A group of Jubilee politicians has asked the government to stop implementing development projects in opposition strongholds, following their criticism of the country's borrowing culture.
Led by Tharaka Nithi Senator Kindiki Kithure, the politicians who were speaking in Kirinyaga on Sunday, defended the government's latest decision to float the second Eurobond amid protests from the opposition. The Jubilee politicians argued that no country can develop without borrowing."Those at the helm of power in government, Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto, know the plans for the country. The money they are borrowing is to facilitate development where that development will generate finances in the long run," said Prof Kithure, as quoted by Citizen Digital. On her part, Nyandarua Women Representative Faith Gitau said those who are against the government development agenda should be left out."If they don't support our President, all development projects should not be taken to their areas. You cannot take development to people who abuse you on daily basis," she said. They urged the government to allocate the Sh200 billion Eurobond cash to pending projects in Jubilee zones such as the Mt Kenya region. The government has in the past few days been battling accusations from the opposition and other groups over claims that it is over borrowing and that the national debt is becoming unsustainable.
