President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have called upon fellow politicians and civilians to work together for the good of the country.
During a thanksgiving service at the Huruma Redeemed Gospel Church in Nairobi on Sunday alongside his deputy William Ruto, President Uhuru said his swearing in ceremony on Tuesday will not be a celebration of him winning the elections but celebrations for peace and unity in the country.“And like in any competition, there will be winners and losers but in terms of the election we are all winners as Kenyans. Our responsibility after the political competition is to come together and work to build the nation,” President Kenyatta said.Kenyatta also urged Kenyans to co-exist peacefully despite political difference which he said is the nature of political world.“Within the political world, it is normal to have political differences but that does not mean we can’t co-exist and live together in peace,” President Kenyatta said. The deputy President on his part asked Kenyans to shun leaders who preach divisive politics, ethnicity and hate.“Today, let us all resolve that we will refuse hate, resist negative ethnicity and reject divisive politics so that we can live together as one people – the people of the great nation of Kenya,” said Ruto.
