President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid has received a major boost following an endorsement from the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK).

While defending their decision to rally behind Uhuru, Imams drawn from the six coastal counties praised the President's style of leadership, adding that his development record over the past four years is unmatched."More than 400 imams are gathered here today to declare that they together with their families back at home, will campaign for the President's re-election,” said CIPK national chair Sheikh Abdalla Ateka. The religious leaders noted that despite not voting for the Jubilee pair of Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto in 2013, the Jubilee government has done much for the community hence their decision to support their re-election bid. They promised to use their influence to convince members of the Muslim community to rally behind the Jubilee administration. The move will be good news to the Jubilee leadership which is keen to get a slice of the region's 1.7 million votes during the August 8 polls.
