Leaders of Ukambani have assured President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto that the region is no longer an opposition’s stronghold.
Speaking during Jubilee’s tour in the region, the leaders said that they have combed across the area, adding that Former Prime Minister, Raila Amolo Odinga is in for a rude shock.
Kitui leaders including MPs Nimrod Mbithuka Mbai (Kitui East) Rachael Kaki Nyamai (Kitui South) and former senator David Musila promised that they will deliver more votes from the region than they did during the August exercise.
According to Musila, the leaders from the region have affirmed to back Uhuru’s re-election because they want development and not empty talk as being spread by the opposition. “There is nothing to show in terms of development for all those years we have been in the opposition. We want development and we know we cannot get that from the opposition and their demonstrations,” Musila said, as quoted by Capital FM.
On their part, Uhuru and Ruto asked the residents to turn out in large numbers to vote for Jubilee. Ruto dared Raila to face him in 2022, adding that he is not ready for humiliating defeat.
“If you decided you are not interested in the October 26 fresh election and withdrew from the race, we are appealing to you to allow us to elect our President in peace,” the Deputy President said.
