President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Rutto should now treat the growing influence of Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto as ‘threat’ to their reelection bid, says Dismas Mokua.
On Saturday, Rutto hosted thousands of opposition supporters in Bomet town despite being perceived as a Jubilee stronghold.
Mokua says Rutto’s influence could severely affect Jubilee’s reelection bid given the growing insurgency of former allies in the region.
“Governor Rutto’s influence is real and cannot be dismissed by a serious contender. He is swaying votes in favour of NASA,” he says.
He further adds: “We are now seeing a scenario where he has tasked Jubilee to camp in a region they expected a walkover. Things are not as easy as Jubilee thinks.”
To popularize his candidature, NASA leader Raila Odinga brought the outspoken governor on board along with a few influential MPs.
Also working closely with Rutto includes Emurua Dikir MP Johanna Ng’eno, Narok West MP Patrick Ntutu and Kuresoi MP Zakayo Cheruiyot.
