President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto are expecting to be backed by more than 60 percent of voters from Machakos County.
According to Jubilee Party coordinator Jeremiah Kamia the first achievement in the fight to attain power in August was ensuring that residents from this part of the nation turn out in large numbers in order to register as voters. He noted that the next plan is wooing the residents to vote for the current leadership when that time comes. Kamia said that the region has 619,631 registered voters. This contradicts with reports from the Independent Boundaries and Electoral Commission (IEBC) that noted that the County had 445,421 registered voters registered voters in 2013 and only listed 114,320 during this year’s mass voter registration exercise, which was completed this month. The possibilities of Jubilee garnering a high number of votes from the county is igh since Maendeleo Chap Chap Leader Dr Alfred Mutua has affirmed that he will also rally the electorate behind the duo. Mutua argues that he will back President Kenyatta because they share the same agenda, development. The main challenge the ruling government is likely to face in the region is the influence of Wiper leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka.
