President Uhuru Kenyatta today wrapped his campaign swing in Makueni County with an assurance that Jubilee has solutions to the development needs of the Lower Eastern region.
Speaking in Kilome Constituency, the President said his administration has laid the foundation that has started delivering direct benefits to residents of the Lower Eastern region and is seeking a second term to build on the transformative gains already made.
“We have implemented more projects in this region during the short duration we’ve been in office than all previous governments and we want to continue with the same trend until all your development needs have been addressed,” President Kenyatta said when he addressed residents at Mukaa, the fourth and last stop of the day in Makueni County.
The President said his administration has already increased electricity connection to households in Makueni County from 13,000 before 2013 to the current 33,000. Some 651 primary schools have also been connected to electricity in the county through the Last Mile Connectivity electricity programme.
President Kenyatta also spoke of road construction in Makueni since he came to office, citing the ongoing construction of Sultan Hamud-Kasikeu-Wautu-Kyambeke-Kikoko road at a cost of Kshs 1.4 billion and the 25 Kilometre Kasikeu-Upete-Kilome road which he has authorised to be constructed and will cost Kshs 1 billion among other key infrastructure projects.
He said plans have also been finalised to construct two major dams – the Kaiti and Kivaani dams – at a cost of Kshs 4.8 billion to provide enough water for domestic consumption and irrigation.
“These are some of the projects that we want to finish so that we complete the journey we have embarked on to transform the Ukambani region. That is why we are seeking your votes and support to enable us do that,” President Kenyatta told the excited residents who warmly received him at Mukaa.
Saying he wanted to work with Ukambani leaders to transform the region, President Kenyatta asked the residents to vote for the Jubilee team that is focused on improving their welfare.
“We are asking you to walk with us on this journey of development and progress because the opposition have shown that they have no plans to lift your lives apart from catering for their own interests,” President Kenyatta said.
The President was accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto who called on Ukambani residents to vote for Jubilee, saying it has delivered on the promises it made to them unlike the opposition which is thriving on lies and propaganda.
The Deputy President urged the residents to back Jubilee, which has already delivered on pledges to build a new rail and roads, and provided clean water, free maternity for women, and more than doubled electricity connections to homes and schools in just four years.
“The choice in the August polls is between our team, which has delivered on its promises by investing heavily to improve the lives of Kenyans, and our opponents who have concentrated on stories, propaganda and lies,” the Deputy President said.
Ukambani leaders, including Kilome MP Regina Ndambuki and her Kaiti counterpart Richard Makenga, Jubilee gubernatorial candidate for Makueni Gideon Ndambuki and former legislator Peter Maundu, said the ground has shifted in favour of Jubilee in the Lower Eastern region.
They vowed to support Jubilee, a party that stands for all-inclusive growth and development, saying they are sure it is going to form the next government and they do not want to be left out this time round.
