In a bid to see President Uhuru Kenyatta re-elected for a second term in the August 8th elections, a section of politicians drawn from Mt. Kenya region have formed the UhuRuto Express team that will drum up support for the Jubilee leader.
The team was launched on Sunday at Kamukunju town in Nyeri county.
The group has over 40 sitting MPs, senators and governors who were defeated during the Jubilee nominations and will not be seeking re-election.
Led by Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau, the team said it is now dedicated to ensure they mobilize voters to re-elect Jubilee leaders.
“The team will also seek to heal any wounds caused by the party primaries by refocusing the attention and energies of its members and Jubilee supporters on the ultimate prize; the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta. UhuRuto Express will achieve this by bringing clarity on its complementary role in the Jubilee presidential election,” said Kamau.
Othaya MP Mary Wambui expressed confidence that president Uhuru will win in the first round.
“Indeed, the fact that President Uhuru won in round one of the 2013 election without a campaign effort similar to UhuRuto Express only means his victory will even be more resounding this time round,” Wambui said.
The group is expected to reach voters through public rallies, the press and leaders’ meetings.
Other leaders present in the meeting were MPs Cecily Mbarire (Runyenjes), Njogu Barua (Gichugu), Joseph Kiuna (Molo) and Nakuru woman representative Mary Mbugua.
