Fresh details have emerged about the Tuesday’s security operation at a Likoni madrassa that led to the rescue of 95 children. According to the Standard, the British government has now revealed that some of the children who were allegedly being abused at the madrassa were its nationals. In a statement released to newsrooms, The British High Commission hailed the officers from the National Crime Agency following their coordination with the Kenyan police to conduct a successful operation on the Islamic school.“On December 19, 2017, Kenyan police executed warrants at a correctional centre in Mombasa where it was alleged children were at risk of harm. This included one Kenyan police unit which was mentored by the UK’s National Crime Agency. The officers rescued more than 90 children," read the statement in part. The operation has continued to elicit mixed reactions from different factions. The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (Supkem) has castigated officers behind the operations, for not involving them in the raid at the madrasa. Supkem chairman Yusuf Nzibo said that the council was willing to assist the security personnel in probing the alleged abuse of children at the madrasa.Four of the teachers at the madrasa were arrested during the operation before being taken to the Coast provincial police headquarters for questioning. Parents were later to pick the students pending investigations. Police sources revealed that there are possibilities of human trafficking taking place at the madrasa. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
