The United Kingdom (UK)Ambassador to Kenya H.E Mr. Nick Hailey on Tuesday visited Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o at his Prosperity House office.
The High Commissioner toured the county to inspect the different development projects funded by the British Government, and to assess the ongoing works of the Kisumu Breweries, a multi billion project owned by a UK Conglomerate, the Deageo PLC.
Nyongo noted that the talks concentrated on the areas the British Government and the county government can forge partnerships in furtherance of the gains of devolution.
Hailey informed the governor that his government is more focused on direct bilateral engagement with the counties as this is the surest way for the devolved units to tap into the various support opportunities from the British Government.
“My county would look to a structured partnership in the areas of Agribusiness and capacity building especially skills building for agricultural extension officers which is a very key component in the success of agricultural and livestock activities,” he said.
The UK ambassador who was present during the signing of the Lake Region Economic Bloc legal instruments in Kakamega congratulated Nyong'o, adding that coming together makes them stronger.
“It’s only through pooling together will there be capacity to manage shared resources such as Lake Victoria and the environment in general for the benefit of the residents of the region,” said Hailey.
The High Commissioner was accompanied by the second Secretary in charge of Political Affairs Mr. Daniel Cate while the Governor’s entourage had his Chief of staff Mr. Patrick Ouya and CEC for Finance Mr. Nerry Achar.
