A leading UK paper that deals with matters economy has advised IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati to cancel Thursday’s planned presidential repeat polls.

Although IEBC maintains that it is ready for the polls, Chebukati however, says he cannot guarantee a free and fair election given the current political environment.

“Better to delay Thursday’s polls I favour of a more credible re-run. The economy of Kenya is hurtling towards a treacherous showdown,” says The Financial Times, a leading paper in UK.

In its Sunday option, the paper further says: “Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga should put their heads together and agree on matters of national interest. The country can endure short term continued uncertainty that yet another flawed election.”

Supreme Court of Kenya annulled Uhuru’s victory in a landmark ruling after August elections, citing irregularities and illegalities by the commission.

But troubles within the IEBC and persistent calls by Odinga to have ‘radical surgery’ within the commission have caused further confusions.

A week ago, Roselyne Akombe, one of the election commissioners, bolted out citing external interference in the electoral body.
