Former Lands minister Charity Ngilu, Machakos Senator David Musila, Kitui Governor Julius Malombe, Chama Cha Uzalendo leader Wavinya Ndeti, Machakos Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala and People’s Trust Party leader Mutua Katuku exerted pressure on NASA to name Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as the NASA presidential flagbearer in the August 2, 2017 while speaking at a rally in Emali, Makueni.
Also present were governor Kivutha Kibwana and his deputy Adelina Mwau of Makueni, Nairobi deputy governor Jonathan Mueke, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr, Kalonzo Musyoka and several Members of Parliament.
Ngilu apologized to the Kamba community for opposing Musyoka and delivering over 100,000 votes to Jubilee government in 2013 general election.
Kibwana said the Kamba community should make use of their 2.5 million votes to propel Musyoka to State House. “We don’t want to see these votes go to waste,” said Kibwana.
Ndeti reminded Opposition leader Raila Odinga of 2013 agreement in which Odinga was to pass the baton to Musyoka in 2017. “It's time the deal is honoured and Kalonzo flies the opposition flag," said Ndeti.
Musyoka said the solidarity exhibited by lower eastern leaders on Tuesday had given him the confidence to go for the top seat.
