Some of the Ukambani leaders are now supporting the President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga's recent handshake that has generated lots of political debate.
Led by the Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, also Wiper party chairperson, the politicians said the party is ready to support the two leaders as they seek to unite the nation following the disputed elections.
Speaking at Kwa-Kathoka Agricultural Training Centre on Monday, Kibwana said the leaders are aware that they are part of the union.
“We know that Raila went to meet Uhuru but I know that we are part of this historic handshake,” Kibwana said.
Kibwana urged President Uhuru to support Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as he seeks to ascend to power in 2022.
The leaders maintained that Kalonzo is ripe to succeed Uhuru when that comes.
“As Uhuru leaves, he can bless Kalonzo so that we get the presidency,” Kibwana said.
On his part, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr said the region will only realize development if they support the current government.
“We want to be part of this Government to earn all the resources required for development”, Kilonzo Junior said.
