Kitui Rural MP Charles Nyamai has rubbished National Assembly Minority Leader Francis Nyenze's endorsement for President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Nyenze made the remarks during a state function in his backyard over the weekend, where he called on the locals to reelect President Kenyatta.
He has, however, since denied endorsing the Head of State for a second term.
“Let’s not be swayed by politics of empty rhetoric by those alleging that President Uhuru hasn’t worked well. The truth is Uhuru has done a lot and we’ll elect those whose work can be seen,” Nyenze noted.
But speaking on Tuesday, Nyamai dismissed Nyenze's endorsement as inconsequential, maintaining that the Ukambani region was firmly behind the opposition coalition NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his Deputy Kalonzo Musyoka.
“That endorsement has instead served to embolden the Kamba community’s resolve to vote for Nasa to the last man. The outrage of voters is clear even on social media and it will have no impact,” he noted.
NASA is seeking to stamp its authority in the Lower Eastern region ahead of the polls.
