'Hell broke' in Machakos town after the Supreme Court Nullified President Uhuru Kenyatta’s August 8 win. Taxi operators and Boda Boda riders joined the jovial locals in street celebrations.
Those who spoke to the Star expressed their satisfaction with the ruling. Mutisya Makau said that the verdict proved that the constitution can be respected regardless of parties involved.
“We are happy the Supreme Court has respected the wish of majority of Kenyans. Many people were convinced the election was not conducted in a free and fair manner and we are happy the judges have not let us down,” Makau told the daily.
Others said that this will restore the confidence in Judiciary that many Kenyans have been praying for. Dee Kivuva was among those who said that the Supreme Court judges have started a journey of making the courts independent.
“We applaud Chief Justice David Maraga, his deputy Philomena Mwilu, justices Smokin Wanjala and Isaac Lenaola for agreeing the IEBC did not conduct the election in a lawful manner as required by the Constitution. The judgment is a show that Kenyan courts are becoming independent,” Kivuva said.
