Speaking on Friday during the Ukulima Sacco Education day held at Thika social hall in Thika town, the Sacco’s national Secretary, Jeremiah Ongaro said they are giving loans to youths to start income generating activities.

Ongaro encouraged youths to borrow loans and engage in farming activities to uplift themselves economically.

“Majority of our young people do not have their financial priorities right. They spend money in luxuries like smartphones instead of investing. We want to educate them and empower them through micro-credit financing,” said Ongaro.

Addressing the same meeting, the Sacco’s national vice-chairman, Dr Philip Githinji said the Sacco is open to anyone, including officers employed in the private sector, parastatals and other government agencies.

The Sacco was registered in February 1972 and has a membership of over 37,000 and with a share capital of Sh8.5 billion. It boasts of more than 107 branches.
