Ulinzi Stars head coach Dunstan Nyaudo has bemoaned the exit of his key strikers Sammy Onyango and Stephen Waruru. The duo was instrumental for the Soldiers in their 2017 campaign where they jointly contributed to 23 out of the 37 league goals scored by the team.Waruru netted thirteen times with Onyango bagging six goals aside from jointly registering several assists.Onyango, however, ditched the club for KPL champions Gor Mahia while Waruru opted for Sofapaka much to the disappointment of Waudo who recently took up the reins after former head coach Benjamin Nyangweso was redeployed to other military duties following a dispirited 2017 season."Filling up the two gaps is not an easy task because they were first-team players and performing really well. To be honest it will take a long time but ultimately I know we can get some good replacements. We already have Masuta Masita who has shown promise," said Nyaudo, as quoted by Capital Sports. However, this is not the first time the club is losing its rising stars having lost John Mark Makwatta who moved to Zambia after a stellar season with the Soldiers that also saw him emerge the top scorer in the 2016 Kenya Premier League. The team is currently training in Nanyuki and will be in Nairobi over the weekend for a friendly against Tusker FC and KPL debutants Wazito.Ulinzi kicks off their 2018 campaign against Zoo Kericho on February 2 at the Afraha Stadium.
