Lanet Umoja Member of the County Assembly Mwangi Ngarama today, Friday donated books and other school materials to primary School pupils from poor backgrounds in his area, while pledging to initiate an independent education bursary fund to supplement the government sponsored ones.
Ngarama, who was distributing Education Bursary Certificates to over one hundred beneficiaries at Umoja Primary School urged parents to take advantage of the government sponsored bursary funds to empower their children through education.
While taking advantage of the occasion to donate the education materials to the needy pupils, the MCA promised to work hard and initiate an independent education bursary fund for the area aimed at supplementing the government sponsored ones.
“I promise to personally initiate an independent education bursary fund to supplement the government-sponsored ones. This is because as a leader, I realize the importance of education in empowering children to face their future with pride,” said the MCA.
He also noted that most parents from poor backgrounds, who apply for the state sponsored education bursary funds, succeed in benefiting from the kitty because the local managers of the bursary funds were exercising transparency, unlike in other regions of the county where poor parents were crying wolf over skewed methods of approving education bursary funds.
At the same time, Mwangi urged head teachers and parents of school children from poor back grounds to work together in exchanging information and enhancing discipline in school children towards improving their academic performances and also assisting in smooth benefits of the education funds.
