Umowa sacco on Tuesday carried out a one day training-awareness programme as a part of preventing road carnage.
About 200 drivers and conductors of Umowa Sacco, a commercial vehicles Sacco, participated in the programme.
Speaking after the training exercise in Eastleigh location in Machakos town, Umowa Sacco chairman Steve Mutuku said that the training would play a critical role in observing road safety.
“The drivers and conductors have a new perception of the rules to be observed while on the road to avoid accidents. The training has also covered the Traffic Act teachings like not driving for more than eight continuous hours,” said Mutuku
He added that most accidents happen due to lack of knowledge and ignorance by drivers and conductors.
According to Mutuku participants were also advised to have their vehicles checked frequently and to be patient while driving to avoid over speeding.
The program is part of the conditions the Umowa Sacco has to carry out after a fatal accident by one of their drivers and vehicle on Masii-Tawa road less than a week ago that left two passengers dead.
However, the chairman stated that the Sacco would not get discouraged by this but will soon extend their boundaries to cover transport in the interior areas.
Mutuku also promised the passengers who use their vehicles that they would resume transport before the end of the week.
