Members of the United Nations Security Council are coming to Kenya, Somalia, and Egypt for a four-day visit.
The council is scheduled to hold talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi concerning the closure of the Dadaab and Kakuma Camps that has brought a row worldwide.
Ashley Wolfington of the International Rescue Committee said she is sceptical that Kenya will actually close the Dadaab Camp adding that it would not be such a wise idea.
“It isn’t a good idea that they want to close the biggest refugee camp in the world. Instead of planning to close it, they need to address the issues that are not working to have the camp open,” she said.
Wolfington was concerned that if the refugees are sent back to where they fled from, their safety and health would be at great risk.
‘‘There might be a need to come up with models and discussions as evidence of why closing the camps is not a good idea and the possible scenarios of what happens when the camps close,” she added.
