United Nations refugee agency has scaled down its funding to Daadab camp following a steady decrease in the population of refugees.
Through a statement released on Thursday by UN, the Total number of Refugees in Daadab camp and especially Somali residents has steadily reduced to 240,000 as of mid-September from 464,500 in 2011.
UN refugee agency spokeswoman Yvonne Ndege, said that the organization has cut off various budgets which include tents by 70 per cent. Funding of Fafi Integrated Development Association (Faida), an NGO providing agricultural projects and cookstove provision has also been scaled down.
UN's World Food programme (WFP) had warned on Wednesday that refugees were are not receiving nutritioned food after it reduced its funding.
“If no substantial resources are received soon, WFP will be compelled to introduce rations cuts from October in order to stretch available resources through December,” the agency said
Recent report by UN shows that nearly to 31,000 Volunteer refugees have returned to Somalia, and about 71,000 since the launch of UN/Kenya/Somalia repatriation initiative in 2014.
On Tuesday Residents of Daadab camp protested on the measures taken by UN in closing Alinjugur field office located in the camp. They expressed fear of loosing important services from UN.
