According to the body, many are afraid of threats and pressure from security officials posted in the camp.

Mohamed Mahad Gurhan, an officer in UNHCR’s Dadaab office, has said that the families are going back to Somalia as they fear for their lives.

“Families we have interviewed and many of those who filled the repatriation forms have shown that they are returning because of threatening rhetoric by Kenyan regional security officials who recently visited the camp,” Gurhan is quoted by VOA.

He has alleged that Kenyan Regional security officials have been telling the refugees to vacate the camp or be forced out.

“We spoke to families in the camp who are returning for fear, not willingly or voluntary,” said Gurhan.

So far, almost about 24, 000 refugees have returned to Somalia from the camp that is home to 300, 000 Somalis. Caption: The Dadaab refugee camp. UNHRC has come out to explain the reason behind the voluntary vacation from the camp.
