Unauthorized meat peddler has been arrested in Nakuru following an operation to crack down on people operating butcheries illegally. The vendor was found with meat that was not certified by health officers. The meat was stored in a fridge and was emanating a stench smell which gave the whole shop a bad smell. Samuel Nyakambi is among the officers that lead the operation. Nyakambi said the vendor was flouting health rules and the means the meat was being transported was unhygienic. The officer confirmed that the meat had no certificate for transport. Following this incident, a warning has been issued to all those operating fast foods business against violating health laws. The health authority in the area has threatened to close down all the business operating in unhygienic conditions. The peddler was arraigned in court and charged with selling meat not certified for human consumption. He was also convicted with transporting meat without license. The accused plead guilty for all these two accounts. Nakuru magistrate Judycaster Nthuku ordered him to pay a fine of Sh40,000. The operation comes just a few hours after four people lost their lives after eating deadly Mutura and drinking ‘supu’ in Jua Lako, Kenlands, Nakuru Town West Constituency.
