Residents in Kisii town have called upon the Government of  Kisii through the environment department and GWASCO to help them unblock sewage tunnels which have affected the town.

According to them, the town has become unfriendly more so in places of their business because of the smell which comes from the broken sewages.

Led by Teresia Bitutu a business lady who spoke to this writer on Thursday at Kisii town, she said they have been affected by the smell and they are uncomfortable hence they need the matter to be addressed.

“We are fearing that an outbreak of diseases will come in as a result of this menace in our town, we are appealing to the county government through the environment department to work upon it,” Bitutu said.

She added that they have been experiencing the problem for many months without the authority taking necessary measures.

“It is quite shameful for the town to have a bad smell which comes from this sewers without the authority taking actions while they are aware," said Bitutu. 

Kepha King’oina Community clinical officer also appealed to GWASCO to set measures on how they will curb the menace.

King’oina said that the breakage of sewage in Kisii County more so in the town is worrying since most people use tap water which is likely contaminated with these sewers.

He also added that people are likely to get some waterborne diseases since they are using water for their daily activities.
