Mud, silt, plastic bottles and paper bags have clogged in the drainage system which blocks the flow of water.

This has affected the residents as the runoff water find its way into their businesses and homesteads.

"Paper bags and plastic bottles have blocked these drainages systems and are the leading cause of floods in the town. We pay taxes and we need quality services," said Cynthia Nyakerario, a business owner in Jogoo.

Roads in this area have become impassable as they covered by silt and mud deposits because the drainage systems work no more.

Before the onset of the rains, the county government had started the rehabilitation of the drainage systems but it was caught up by the rains which saw other area's drainage systems remain blocked up to date.

Last week, Kisii county secretary Mr Patrick Lumumba, had warned the resident against turning the drainages systems into a dumping site.

"Don't block these drainages as it will affect you. The rains need a proper drainages system," said Lumumba.

The county has been experiencing heavy rains which are set to reduce by end of this week.
