State of anxiety and uncertainty has engulfed pro-negotiated democracy patrons in Garissa and Mandera counties following the launch of the Economic and Freedom Party which is expected to battle Jubilee contestants for the various elective posts in the August polls.
Led by the infamous Garre Council of Elders and the Murule counterparts, the politicians now say they will front their preferred candidates in the region since Jubilee's negotiated politics seem to favour specific families with popular political name tags.
The new development emerged after defectors attended a political function convened at Mandera’s Geneva ground.
During the rally, Mandera's defending Senator Billow Kerrow criticized President Uhuru and his entire Jubilee party for giving the north eastern counties a raw deal despite their unified votes in the 2013 elections.
“North Eastern region has been shortchanged by the Jubilee regime they gave 98 per cent of their votes in the last elections. As one people, we are now coming up with our own party to avoid a repeat of such humiliation come August polls," pointed out Senator Kerrow.
In the new party formation, the Garre elders endorsed the former Rift Valley Provincial Commissioner Hassan Noor as their leader who will in turn be deputized by Abass Hajir who was fronted by the neighboring Murule clan.
