Amid the rising numbers of politicians out to vie for various elective posts under the ODM ticket in Garissa county, party leadership at Orange House has imposed tough conditions for aspirants, a fact that has sent a chilling wave of uncertainty among its political hopefuls.
In the latest guidelines, gubernatorial aspirants are required to pay an amount of Sh500,000, while aspiring woman representative aspirants will need to pay a massive Sh100,000.
The party has also imposed harsh requirements that may bar disloyal party officials from getting nomination and those who have in the past failed to remit their party dues.
Speaking on Wednesday, National Election Board chairperson Judith Pareno issued that elected officials will have to first clear their party arrears to be eligible for the incoming nominations. These arrears include nonrefundable dues as Life Membership, the monthly subscriptions as well as the party nomination fees.
"Those interested in the forthcoming nominations will have to pay the party dues including the non-refundable fee, Life Membership fees, and the monthly party subscriptions to enable the party run its daily affairs," she noted.
As this emerges, the party management has also announced that it will close its countrywide membership registration drive by December this year. Pareno hinted this will ensure the nomination exercise remains free and fair.
