Parents in Naivasha have claimed that the uncertainty of the looming teachers’ strike is causing emotional turmoil to students.
The parents have noted that majority of their children have started showing signs of disinterest in education, as the teachers threaten to make good their strike threat.
“My daughter has already stated that she does not want to go back to school. The demonstration threat is affecting our children physiologically,” said Jane Kariuki.
She added that the threats demoralized the students, with many saying that they were unwilling to go back to school.
The parents are now appealing to the government to sort out the teachers’ complains before the next school term, to avert the impending strike in public primary schools.
“A lot of time is being wasted by teachers and government in this impending strike. Our children are the ones who are left hanging in between and many of them end up feeling dejected,” she claimed.
Josephine Wamaitha called for a permanent solution to the frequent strike threats, saying innocent children were the victims to the disagreements, yet they were not party to the disputes
“Both the government and the teachers should be frank as the public is not aware of who is speaking the truth or not. Currently both parties are playing on the emotions of the public,” she added
