Kenya’s Under-19 cricket team will leave the country for Australia on Friday, in readiness for the World Cup in New Zealand.
The team, under the tutelage of Jimmy Kamande, who spoke to the Nation on Wednesday will play two friendly matches; against Sydney Thunders on January 3 and 6.
The team will then leave Sydney for Christchurch, New Zealand on January 7 for the tournament
Kenya will be among the four countries representing the continent, with Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Namibia being the other representatives.
South Africa and Zimbabwe are the two Test-playing countries in the continent, with Kenya and Namibia qualifying for being associate members of cricket body, ICC.
The tournament will see 16 teams battle it out for the top prize, and will be grouped into four groups of four teams each.
The country is in pool A with defending champions West Indies, 2014 World champions South Africa and hosts New Zealand.
Kamande said his boys are ready for the tournament and will give a good account of themselves.
“The boys are on high morale, fit and raring to go. We have no injuries in the side and we expect to do well in New Zealand,” said Kamande.
