Boda boda riders who have not attained 18 years and above will not be allowed to operate at Mogonga area.
This is after parents in the area raised concern over increased number of underage children dropping out of school and venturing into boda boda business.
Riders on Saturday vowed not to allow anyone who has dropped school to operate boda boda in the area.
“It is worrying that underage children are operating as riders in the area. Anyone found giving motorbikes to school going children or those who have dropped schools will have the motorbike surrendered to the police. Children should be allowed to complete school before joining boda boda business,” said Erick Oyondi, a rider.
He called on boda boda officials to cooperate and ensure all riders in the area have valid identification cards and driving licenses.
“Riders operating without licenses and IDs should be arrested and taken to court as this will scare school children from dropping school to join the business. Boda boda officials should launch a crackdown to know those operating illegally,” he added.
Another rider Douglas Nyamosi urged parents to report their children who have dropped school to local chiefs for legal actions to be taken immediately.
"Parents should report if their kids drop out of school immediately so that action is taken against them," said Nyamosi.
