Undeveloped plots near Lake Victoria in Kisumu may soon be repossessed by the county government.
This is after a motion that sought to enable the county government to put up structures on such land was passed by the assembly.
Other plots in other prime areas that have not been well-utilised will also be repossessed.
This comes after the county took charge of Dunga, Paga, Kichinjio, Usoma, and Lwangni, beaches to address the wrangling that was there between the investors and the residents who claimed that the developers were not mindful of the environmental conservation.
The motion, which was tabled by Nyalenda A ward representative Jackton Onunga, sought to address what he called “idle lands that need to be used by the county”.
Onunga defended the motion, saying that there was no need to have plots in prime areas that are just idle and undeveloped.
He said the motion will develop lake shores to boost tourism.
“We want to ensure that every piece of land that needs to be developed gets to be used as it should,” he said on Thursday.
He added that the land will be repossessed only if the owner does not develop it.
