In a statement sent to newsrooms on Wednesday, UNDP said it provides capacity building to electoral agencies only when called upon by the government of the day of relevant countries.

“UN electoral assistance is provided only on the basis of a specific request from the national authorities, which, for Kenya, was received in 2014," UNDP said.

“Electoral assistance provided by the United Nations continues to be carried out in an objective, impartial, neutral and independent manner,” the statement continued.

The UN agency made the statement following President Uhuru Kenyatta's claim during this year's 53rd Jamhuri Day celebrations where he accused NGOs of working closely with the opposition to influence the outcome of the 2017 general elections.
