Education cabinet secretary Fred Matiang'i has ordered the Commission for University Education to subject all universities in Kenya to scrutiny to see whether their operations meet the required standards.
The tough-talking CS demanded that those that fall short of the required standards be shut down.
Matiang'i was speaking at the Amref International Training Centre in Nairobi yesterday.
''It is an exercise that I would like to see completed as fast as possible so that those institutions that have held letters of interim authority beyond the statutory period are asked to close.'' said according to the People's Daily.
He warned that some institutions were selling fake degrees to unsuspecting Kenyans.
Matiang'i also asked universities to brace themselves up for earth-shattering changes.
