Founding father and the first President of the republic Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and his vice president Jaramogi Oginga Odinga had a number of similarities, some of whose explanations are clearly visible.

For instance, they both found themselves in problems with the colonial  government, but this was as a result of their same ideology and desire to liberate the country from the imperialists rule.

They also ended up in government at the same time as a result of their joint effort and ultimate success in bringing the colonial era to an end.

What many of us who came a while later would ask is the reason behind their similarities in clothing and presentation.

For instance, both of them wore Islamic caps, which also had the same patterns marked on them, was there an agreement that the president and his second in command would maintain some sort of similarity?

Also, both carried a fly whisk on some public occasions, with Kenyatta's, however, shouting more, leading to it being considered his leadership and now historical symbol.

Was there an agreement on these similarities or was it just a coincidence?

Unfortunately they are no longer there and only historians or their sons, President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga can now answer the question.
