A man from Kawuor Bondo village, Rangwe sub-county in Homa Bay county, lost his life after being beaten for allegedly stealing maize from a neighbour's farm.
The 46-year-old man is said to have admitted stealing the maize because he was starving.
“He said he had no money to buy maize flour, currently retailing at Sh140 for a 2kg packet,” a resident is quoted by the Standard.
The crowd rained blows and kicks on him following the incident.
County police commander, John Omusanga said the suspect succumbed to injuries by the time his officers arrived at the scene.
He however cautioned the residents against taking taking the law into their own hands.
