The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) National secretary in charge of secondary schools, Edward Obwocha, has faulted the education officers for messing up with the form one selection exercise.
Speaking in Kisii town, Obwocha said the unionists will mobilize their teachers next year to boycott the exercise, if the government fails to carry it out in a fair and transparent manner.
“The form one selection is being used by the education officers at the expense of our pupils, who have performed well, and I want to ask the government to review the process and if not, we shall ask our teachers not to participate because we want fairness,” said Obwocha.
This comes after public primary school head teachers claimed that parents are transferring their children from private schools to public schools in a bid to secure chances in national schools next year.
The head teachers noted that the parents want their children enrolled mainly in Standards Five, Six and seven, stressing they are being overwhelmed by the demand amid overstretched facilities.
Similar concerns were raised by Kitutu Masaba Member of the National Assembly, Timothy Bosire, who said that the selection is skewed and favours a few individuals at the expense of qualified pupils from poor families.
