Wanjira argues that women are the main coordinators of peace in the country and the ones to know in case there are strangers in the community.

“Women are very keen on their surroundings. They are the biggest protectors of the residents as they are the ones who pinpoint anything they suspect is wrong,” she said.

Wanjira was speaking at Kamere in Naivasha where she appealed to the government to sponsor women related peace initiatives.

“They can comfortably convince a man not to go and kill despite his status. They are also the ones who take care of their children and would easily note in case one was radicalised or had changed his behaviours. Women in Naivasha have been reporting their children to the security personnel in case they spotted something wrong in them. This has helped curb cases of increased crime in the area,” she added.

Wanjira said, “The only way we can be able to fight terrorism is from the grassroots. This makes the role of the women so important.”
