Several universities risks total closure as Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi continues with radical surgery in the education sector.
The tough speaking CS oversaw administering and subsequent releasing of national examinations for both primary and secondary schools without single cases of cheating.
In an interview with Citizen TV on Sunday, Matiangi said his ministry was on the process of reforming the higher education.
“In some cases, I have to be honest and tell you that I am in touch with the Commission for Higher Education and we have to implement reforms in the university. Some of these reforms will be painful and very difficult,” he said.
”But each of these reforms are absolutely necessary. In some cases, I have to be honest with you that in may actually lead to closure of some of the universities,” he added.
Matiangi could however, not disclose whether the affected universities will be private or public, maintaining that investigations were still ongoing.
