Members of Parliament have passed a Bill making it mandatory for aspirants for MP seat to have a university degree.
Aspirants for county assemblies are also required to have at least a diploma, as in the Election Laws (Amendment) number 3, Bill 2015.
The law may bar several aspirants, who want to run for the seats in the August 8, 2017 elections but are yet to go to college.
The Bill also increases the number of voters in a polling stations from 500 to 700.
The Bill by the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee passed through the Third Reading. It will now be forwarded to the Senate for input.
The National Assembly adjourned until February 7, 2017, when they resume the Fourth session.
