Kenyatta University has distanced itself from a degree presented to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) by Taita Taveta Governor Granton Graham Samboja before the last general elections.

The institution denied presenting Samboja with a human resource management degree after he appeared before Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to clear his name from academic certificate accusations.

According to the governor, he joined the university in January 2002 for a certificate course in project management before he enrolled for a diploma in human resource management at the same college in 2003.

Through a letter released to the newsroom, Acting vice chancellor Prof Paul Wainaina said that the governor was not a student at the university.

“This is to inform you that there are no records in the university to indicate that Granton Samboja of ID number 1254***1 was a student of Kenyatta University and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in 2009” stated part of the letter as quoted by SDE.

The county boss was sworn into office last week despite pending court cases over his academic qualification. The lawmaker says he was cleared by different government agencies such as police and Kenya Revenue Authority.
