University graduates are unable to compete favourable in the job market due to lack of marketable skills, United States International University (USIU) lecturer Joseph Otindo has said.
Otindo said there is a big gap between the courses offered and market needs adding that university curricular needs to be overhauled to achieve quality education and the needed market skills.
"Curriculum offered in our universities does not equip the students with proper skills needed in the job market," he said.
Otindo was addressing youth at Citam Nakuru during a forum that has attracted over 4,000 attendants from different counties in the country.
He said industrial attachments should be part of the curriculum because it will help many students acquire necessary skills.
The lecturer advised university administration to set up institutes of capacity building to equip students with soft skills that will enable them compete vigorously in the job market.
Mr Otindo urged parents to assist their children in choosing courses before they join universities in order to come up with strong courses that will assist them in searching for employment after graduation.
He advised the youth who join universities and colleges to work hard and avoid being spoon fed by dons noting that they should carry out further research on class discussion to improve their credibility.
