Just a week after the University of Nairobi was indefinitely closed following student unrest, another school and university on Monday became victims of the same immediate clusure.

Students of Lenana High School and Mt Kenya University (Thika) campus were forced to go home after their respective management authorities reached the decision to send them home idefinitely.

This came after reported cases of student unrest.

At Lenana, the students went to the streets demonstrating against the death of their colleague.

They went began demonstrating in the morning following the death of Form Three student Amos Mumo and accused the administration of covering up the cause of death. 

They said he had been quarantined at the school’s sanatorium Saturday afternoon after he contracting chicken pox and that his condition worsened, leading to his death.

"Mumo was isolated from other students and placed under the school's care, but we suspect he was neglected, leading to his demise,” said Boniface, a student.​

At MKU in Thika, the university Senate did not immediately disclose why they reached the decision to send home the students.
